They do, but you can't go cheap.
GO all out or dont waste your time.

Valentine 1, eBay will run about $350-$380, brand new $400.
5 mile range in every direction, detects everything even laser and you can have a remote mount for it so you hide the detector itself and have the display thing (3 inches by 1 inch or so) mounted on your dash.

There 3 detectors that perform very well:
(in random order)
-Bel 980 (984 now I think)
-Escort Passport 8500
-Valentine One

Where I live, it's mostly Ka band now, so a cheap detector that has very little sensitivity in that area would not do well. My friend has some $100 cobra in his car, and we caravaned a few places and my detector (Escort 8500) detected signals WAY before his. So yes, any of those 3 will work just fine for you. Each has it's pros and cons, but I chose the Escort because I got it for $200 (used to work at best buy) and it has very few false alarms. I've been using for quite some time, and it has truly saved me more than once.

Of course, it won't get you out of all the situations, but it will help you keep that right foot in check.

My dad has an passport 8500 in his porsche, and he has yet to be pulled over since he got it. He drives quite aggresively and I am sure cops are itching to pull over a car like that.

wish my dad was a car guy... in my lifetime my dad has driven a 79 Caprice, 88 S-10 Blazer, 94 Explorer, 95 Crown Vic, 89 Oldsmobile, 01 Tacoma.... The Taco is a nice truck no doubt (pretty rare, extended cab step-side w/ TRD package), but still, it's all pretty h: *yawn*

Yeah, my dad got me into cars, but he rarely lets me drive his

He has been through alot of cool cars, which is fun since I got to ride in them from time to time.

When I was real young he had a camaro, but I don't remember that at all...

What I do remember was
Mitsu Eclipse, 3000GT VR-4 (like the 40th ever made, kinda cool), Audi A6, Z3, 95 911 Carrera, 97 911 Targa - which is what he has now.

I got to drive it once, which was incredible.. but my teg never felt slower, on the way home

my cobra works well.. The one that talks to you. Sounds dumb so i turn the voice off but other than that its fine. Forget how much it cost but it would 200-300 i think. Not nearly as good as the V1, id definitly choose that over mine.
