In the process of signing up for cable at my new place, I noticed Charter charges $5/month to rent a cable modem. Knowing Charter, I figure that fee is probably taxed in some way as well. I went on Newegg and they sell Motorola cable modems for 40 bucks shipped. Yay for not giving crappy Charter any more money than I have to!

On the other hand, maybe since they're in Chapter 11 bankruptcy at the moment, I should've just paid the extra 5 bucks a month to help keep them afloat... :thinking:

I bought my own modem when I first signed up for their internet service five years ago. I have the motorolla surfboard and it has been a very stable and reliable modem.

I'm glad to know that I contributed to their bankruptcy. After as much as they have (over)charged me for service for the last ten years, I hope they get their act together. I've heard from several of their technicians about how the organization is run and can see how they are in the state they are in.

 

For whatever it's worth, they haven't charged me a cent for mine. h:
And if they had tried to charge a rental fee, I would have bought my own.

My only obligation to TWC is turn the modem in when I move on to another carrier.
So it should be a non-issue.

 

Come to think of it, I was thinking that this was wireless and a router as well as being a cable modem.
I take the upper division writing exam on Sat. I better slow the fuck down when I read. o:
