Default Failed Emission Need Help

I failed my emissions on a 95 accord lx, the reason was NOx was too high

25/25 NOx Allowed 945 Mines 1323
50/15 NOx Allowed 1045 Mines 1307

I have a magnaflow flow cat and magan headers

any ideas? i took it to a shop the guy said im sure its the cat converter? if that is the problem will it be ok if i get the magnaflow direct-fit 22636 cat instead of the honda oem. thanks

oem is the best if you will keep your car longer.

anyways, magnaflow could work also as long as it is not a high flow cat then you might still have a problem.

im a smog tech so here are some stuff that are related in controlling your nox emmisions

egr----not working (if your car is eqquipped with one)

overheating problem

a part of your cat that controls nox is not working anymore.

that cat should work.

i would also recommend getting an F.I service @ firestone before doing the smog. what they have is a 3 step product that decarbonizes your engine thereby making it run cleaner and better.

Firestone? Meh. Get some Seafoam or GM top end cleaner and go to town

Did you run the engine hard/hot after this, and immediately before getting the smog test? Did you run seafoam through your PCV intake hose?

let me tell you something.

theres a reason why the oem cat is expensive.

inside the cat are precious metals, polladium etc and they are the ones that cleans up your nox, hc,.
oem cats are dipped longer in those precious metals thereby making them more better than the regular/cheap cat that you get at a muffler shop.

i guess that oem cat is the only thing that could save you. or maybe try buying a new/used engine with low miles
