Default Chipping RSX premium to have Type-S power?

Hi,

I am considering buying an RSX, but I don't have enough for Type-S. Since engines are almost the same, I was wondering if there's anyway to chip it to have Type-S power? Is it possible at all. If not, what sort of mods can boost the power with moderately less money than Type-S upgrade?

Thanks

hondata ecu upgrade is the closest youll get but still wont quite be there. the best mod for the rsx is a cai (next to the hondata). of course theres also header exhaust.... and then theres boost but that might run you a bunch of money

base: dual runner plastic intake manifold, lower compression pistons, different cams, different ecu/vtec timing, valve springs, smaller wheels, smaller rear rotors and calipers, slightly more restricive exhaust, other stuff cant think of.

s: single runner high volume aluminun intake manifold, slightly larger tb? i think, 11:1 compression pistons, stronger valve springs,

all in all there is a 40 hp difference. with everything you can do to the base you can do at least that with the types. in the long run however i think the base will better for boost since its built around a lower compression ratio, but i dont know what your money plans are.

In the states, the diff. between a base RSX and a Type-S is around 3.5k MSRP, so with a bit of negotiating I am sure you can close that gap. If you really want Type-S power I would suggest you save a bit and just get the Type-S. To upgrade your base will end up costing you the same in the long run or more when you add in all the labor you need to do, and it will most likely boid your warantee.

yeah as for money i got my s down to 21600 which is not all that much more than base msrp. if in any way you can save up the extra money you should do it. you love yourself for it later.

yup making base to be type S is not a good idea. the internals are different, suspension different. same idea goes if Type R is here, you rather get the R than building a S.

But I was assuming you want a overall quality-power, especially in NA term. If you just want to make it fast, then turboing the base might not be a bad idea.

You have to send in your ECU and a key to Hondata.
