Broken welds on ring gear
Well its not the welds on the ring gear. My bro in law said it was but i went and looked at it today and its either the drive plate or crankshaft that broke, So I'm going to have to drop the tranny to see which it is
Why is your ring gear welded. It should be bolted to the differential assembly itself. And if your crankshaft is broke then the engine wouldn't run and if it did because its imbalanced, so your engine would take a dive and would be damaged and not run anymore.
Dropped the tranny and found the drive plate broke, the ring gear is welded to the converter and the converter bolts to the drive plate and the plate to the crank. It broke around where it bolts to the crank and thats why it wouldn't turn over. Now I just have to wait until Monday to go get a new one

the reason why there was confusing is the Ring gear in the the transmission and part you are talking about it the Flywheel. I must say that is a first, what where you doing? Neutral drops?
Haven't done anything crazy driving wise, Its my Bro n laws car he just got it a year ago. Looks like someone was in the tranny before, maybe replace the torque converter once and its warped? I thought a flywheel was on a manual transmission and a torque converter with a ring gear welded on then bolted to a drive plate was on a automatic.
I like to call parts by there proper names
So you think maybe a warped torque converter is the cause of the break? Its gotta be that or maybe too much end play in the crank?
