Default DSLR Crew v. Help me....

Im in the market for a new lens for my Canon XTi. I will be using the lens to take photos of local soccer games and BMX events. My Kit lens just isn't cutting it any more. I have narrowed it down to 2 lens:

or

Please help me pick.....

ive used the 28 - 200 for modeling shoots before great lens but at 200 if you have a shakey hand you will get some blur. when shooting anything in motoin at full zoom a IS the only way to go unless you have a mono pod or a real steady hand

That wide end kind of sucks... because of the crop factor, that'll be a 44.8mm angle on the wide end.

I'd look at a dedicated zoom... doesn't canon have a 55-250 IS or something?

They might, but I'm sure it is out of my price range right now.

but he's taking pics of things already in motion. i'd assume he's going to have a fast shutter speed if he hd a slight camera shake, it wouldn't be that noticeable.

i guess it depends on how far away you're gonna be too. when i was at the Rose Bowl game, i was shooting at 300 and i didnt have blur until the sun started to go down

ya but in ur case you where shooting stright on to something moving if shooting bmx you are moving the camera to follow the bike this is where you will see blur. plus im going off of the lens choices he put up if i had to pick i would go with the one with the IS feature.
