Real world results from replacing stock intake
I know some vehicles/engines have very restrictive intakes and as a result can really free up an easy 15-20 hp. The new Shelby GT500 KR version gained it's extra 40 hp over the standard GT500 with a free flowing cold intake. I also know that isn't always the case. Are all the "ricer's" putting the intake kits I see on their various Honda's seeing any tangible improvement in hp or at the pump........or is the intake just the first thing these "tuners" toss out? I use the term "tuner" very loosely.
what i have found out is, when your stock car already has a lot of power the intakes seem to work fine, they also seem to help the turbo spool up faster. but in a bone stock app. on a lower power car such as a civic ex, hx, lx, ect. you might not see the results you are expecting. but any further mods you make those will show greater success through installing the intake.
