Default Ram Air vs. Cold Air

if anyone can provide some info on the differences between the two it would be great. im new to the performance side of cars (ive always been an audio junkie).
looking to put a new intake in...just dont really know what im lookin for.
any stats / suggestions would be great.

cold air is a large pipe which usually sits outside of the engine bay to suck in colder air...a RAM air is suppose to ram air into ur intake with some sort of scoop or something...a short ram is refered to a small piece of pipe with a filter inside the bay....

also a short ram gets hot air from ur engine a cold air draws it from ur bumper. check my f/s i got what u need
