What started yesterday as a quest for some good croissants ended up as a mission to come up with the most/best possible ingredients for a transcendent turkey croissant sandwich.

I went to the local hoidy-toidy market that's not Whole Foods and first made sure they had good croissants available, then loaded up on the rest. After I was done, I assembled the sandwich, and let me just say that unlike a certain other statements of "mission accomplished," this truly is a success.

I used the following:

real honest-to-goodness butter croissant from a real bakery
Boar's Head hickory-smoked turkey breast sliced nice and thin
sliced gouda cheese (I got Dofino but think this is a local WI cheese, just get good gouda)
salad mix equivalent to Earthbound Farm Fresh Herb Salad (mixed baby greens, parsley, dill, and cilantro)
roma tomato
cucumber
avocado
alfalfa sprouts
a not-too-manufactured-tasting ranch dressing (I picked Bolthouse Farms "Creamy Yogurt" Classic Ranch, it's less bad for you and kinda milder flavor)

To ensure proper assembly, you must first slice the croissant in half to allow for proper piling up of ingredients. You want to have it just through the middle of the thin front part and then have the bottom be thinner than the top.

Pile up the turkey making sure to leave as flat a base possible for the veggies and cheese.

I find it best to use a really really sharp knife to create very thin slices of the veggies. Again, this allows for the highest probability of even stacking, which prevents unintended loss of sandwich structural integrity at any point during eating. Most crucial. (I'll skip instructions on how to take apart an avocado.)

My order of ingredients from the turkey up was: turkey, tomato, avocado, sprouts, cucumber, cheese, salad mix. Spread a thin layer of the ranch inside the top half of the croissant. Don't need too much.

Yes it's completely OCD to follow this specific of a process to make a sandwich but hoooly crap it tastes good. I was too busy eating it to take a food porn photo. But go use this list and you too, will be happy.

I prefer using Creamy Havarti cheese...that stuff is absolutely delicious on sandwiches...and I would've just used mayo instead of lame-o yogurt ranch.
