Default Temp Gauge problem on a swap.

I have a 95 Civic DX with a 95 B18B swap. I repaired a lot of problems with it and i have it runnign and ready. But i have noticed after bleeding the coolant system and replacing the theristat that i cant get the temp gauge to read an acurate reading. Now before i start with anything i started to do some reaserch on here and found out that the ECT senser has nothing to do with the guage. and there is a senser under the distributer that controls it... Someone says high resistance... should i just brake clean the connecter clean of any unwanted subtances and make sure its tight and it should work out or should i just replace it and move on.
