Default Those kids can drive you crazy!

So throw them in the trunk!

BREMERTON, Wash. -- Sheriff's officials said a daycare operator accused of driving with a child in her trunk told a deputy that she put the boy there because he was acting up.

The 4-year-old boy's mother called police Tuesday afternoon after she overheard the daycare operator talking about how she put the boy in a trunk.

"I was stunned," said Linda Hopper. "Very numb and in disbelief."

Hopper said she confronted the owner who told her she put Hopper's son in the trunk of her sedan as punishment.

"Stunned, I said 'did you shut the trunk?' And she said 'what do you think happens when you roll forward? The car automatically shuts.' I grabbed my son and I left," Hopper said.

Kitsap County sheriff spokesman Scott Wilson said a deputy interviewed the owner at the daycare west of Bremerton, and she said that the boy had been acting up and nearly slammed a car door on her hand while she tried to get him into a car seat.

"I'm not sure how it played out. That's what was told to the investigator by daycare provider," Wilson said.

The woman told the deputy that she put the boy in the trunk of her car and drove for about a third of a mile before letting him out, Wilson said.

"She acknowledged that she made a mistake," he said.

The woman was not arrested or cited, and Wilson said the case has been forwarded to the state Department of Social and Health Services for investigation and Kitsap County prosecutor's office for possible charges.

State records show the woman is licensed to operate a daycare at her home, but her license has been temporarily suspended pending the final results of the investigation.

Whatever the case, Hopper said she'll be finding a new daycare for her son.

"He will never go back there again," she said. "I'm sure he was afraid. I try not to think about it. He's going to be spooked by this forever."
