How much does it cost to paint a car... v18000

so i went to a local body shop to get an estimate/quote on repainting the whole car. This includes some work with fixing some dents and removing rusts.
the quote i got from the guy

$18,000

Are they stripping it down to the chassis, coating that in gold, painting all the panels, sanding it off, then painting it again?

yeah even a full strip down is around 5-6k. is he gutting the car completely and doing a media blast?

maybe he meant 1800?
