Death in our EMT community isn't very common.. but I got to see my second dead body last night. It was an elderly suicide, which made me curious.. so I looked up some info last night.

One stat that was surprising to me was:

There is an average of one suicide among the elderly every 90 minutes.

So give your grandparents a call or a hug today

shes been going steadily downhill for a while
i havent seen her in months so she mightve forgotten me
she was calling for her mom while i was there
and my aunt (grandma's daughter) was treating her like a young child

i work in a nursing home. it's hard to see some of these older people, especially when they don't have family, or don't recognize their family.

 

my grandfather passed away last month already.
my grandmother passed away when i was 10yrs old.
my other grandfather passed away when my mom was 5-6yrs old.
my other grandmother is still alive and i visit her once a week at my parents house.

 

I worked at a nursing home before, and I couldn't handle working in the dementia unit..
