Took the Shotgun Out to Play
2-3/4" shells / 1-1/8 ounces of shot / #8 shot = relatively easy on the shoulder, two silhouette targets died of missing chests (5 shots into each one).
3" magnum shells / #4 buckshot = ouch, silhouette target took one in the chest but I decided not to shoot anymore lest my shoulder get torn off.

I normally shoot 2-3/4" 00 buckshot, which I do fine with. I've done 2-3/4" slugs, which were a bit rough. This is the first time I fired a 3" magnum shell in the boomstick. With a load that loud and with that much kick, it would be difficult to get back on target and take a second shot (assuming the first one didn't kill or otherwise scare away the target). I'd prefer to be able to get all 7 shots off with a less powerful load.
870's are supposed to be good. I'd say yay. Mine is a Winchester 1300 Defender 8-shot...alas, it is no longer made. Mossberg 500 Persuader is supposed to be good also.
