Some punk broke the passenger window out of my car today and cut the stereo out. It was a $5 stereo and he left a $15 knife behind. If the car worth /able to be fixed? He seems to have taken the heater controls with him. Even if I can replace those pieces how can I every make it look like something more than a duct tape installation. The car has high miles, but is clean and well maintained (belt, water pump, Bilstein shocks, brake pads, all fluids replaced in the last 10K miles; oil every 3k). It is time to chuck it?

Any ideas how much a side window will cost or how much work is required?

I appreciate any insight.

If the car runs fine (seeing as it should since you've claimed to be maintaining it regularly) then it should be worth keeping. Replacing a window isn't too much work. Basically you need to remove the door panel, clean out any glass left over, especially any that might still be connected to the regulator, and then install the new window. You might want to lube the tracks/guides before putting in the new window (check out another recent post on what's good to use). It might take a few tries of getting the glass in between both tracks but take your time.

Depending on how much you want to spend you should be able to make your dash/console look good again. You can find most your parts in the junk yard or on eBay. There's always someone parting out parts for civics.

So overall, if you don't mind investing the time to fix it then it should be worth keeping.

 

save the car man. its not hard to replace that stuff, nor is it expensive
