H22A4 goes in and out of limp mode, PLEASE HELP
My buddy threw a rod in his 98 prelude (5sp, 122K miles). Instead of fixing it he sold it to me for $2K. I found a shop to replace the blown h22a4 with another h22a4 with 50K miles and a new clutch. All for $2200 out the door. I hopped in and drove around like a grandma for a few minutes to let the car warm up.
I went to one of the many barren roads by my parents house to play with my new toy (with a full grin of course). After hitting VTEC a few times the CEL came on. It came on right when the car jerked from the fuel cut off at ~6500 (YES the car was warmed up). I tried it again and the engine felt weak even before vtec was supposed to kick in. Normally I can feel and hear it switch on. The engine revs like my 98 2.3CL, no noticable vtec and low fuel cutoff.
The car warms up, vtec works for 5 mins, then it does this. I figured it was what you guys call "limp mode". I took it back to the shop twice and they replaced a different sensor each time yet it STILL does it. The shop has lost all my respect and I dont want them f***ing with my car anymore.
Before I take it to the dealer I want to see what you guys have to say. ANY HELP IS MUCH APPRECIATED.
