Default Universal parts

Hey, I'm relatively new to doing work on cars and I previously had problems with my O2 sensor because I had used a universal sensor as a replacement. I've since switched it to NGK and was wondering what else I should avoid using universal parts on to avoid the hassel and cost of mistakes. Any advice/suggestions would be great. I'm driving a 98 civic si (ex in the states).

Rebeld is good with this stuff. I would just stay away from all universal parts and fix in a can junk.

Something truly universal will often (being generous) be a mistake in the long run.

Something that is simply "off-brand" or not oem isn't necessarily asking for trouble but it depends on what it is and who makes it.

If in doubt you can always go oem, assuming that the price difference isn't too unbearable.
