1. remove the tie rod ends from the hubs
2. unbolt the mounts on each side that hold it to the body
3. remove the bolt that holds the spline from the column to the rack

that is all

why are you doing this tho?

Best way is to get a helms and follow the directions. Attached is a snap shot.

Running 925:
The reason I am doing it is because the power steering is going out in the car. I fill the reservoir up and the next day it’s all leaked out. I bought the car from a friend of mine who told me the rack and pinion was bad in it. If you have any suggestions do tell.

i would look over the pump unit that is mounted to the upper front portion of your motor & see if it appears to be leaking from there first.

then check the lines running to & from the pump & rack, if you don't find anything there then it's probably the rack.. just look over the other more common issues first!

Yea my friend told me that the seals in the rack were bad and he told me I could get new seals at the autoparts store for 30 or so….but he also said its easy enough to just replace the whole rack….the fluid is leaking out of the inner tie rod boot on the drivers side. I noticed that when I went to change the drivers side cv axle out.

thats a little more involved but once you pull the plastic front bumper / metal bumper / radiator / ac condensor / head lights.. u'll be able to see what your dealing with.

You will probably have quite a few spot welds to drill/ cut out to remove the Core Support itself. So look for the "dimples" if you are having trouble removing the Core Support. Use a 1/8in drill bit, then goto 3/8in bit. Unless you just buy a Spot Weld Cutter from Harbor Freight or Sears.
