Default radio (antenna?) problem 96 accord

I have a 96 accord LX with factory radio. recently, sometimes the radio won't pick up stations. there will just be static through the speakers (like a tv with no reception). I am assuming this is a problem with the antenna. the car has the rear window integrated antenna. if I turn the radio off for awhile usually I can get the stations to come back in (after turning the radio off for about 5 mins.) then it will go out again and I have to keep turning it on and then off to get radio reception. if anyone knows how to fix this problem it would be greatly appreciated. also the cigarette lighter won't work (this isn't a recent problem, it hasn't work since I bought the car used 7 years ago). does anyone have any suggestions on how to fix these problems. I am not car knowledge if you couldn't tell. thanks for any advice

1. for the static i would make sure the antenna cable is securely plugged in to the back of the radio. if it is, there might be an underlying problem.

2. cigarette lighter. find the fuse for it and see if its melted. check the connections on the cigarette outlet itself. you can do this while youre checking the antenna cable.
