Default h22 Vtec problem

I have a 99 Honda Civic HB w/ H22 swap. The problem I'm having is that the Vtech engages then stops once the Check Engine lights comes on. The codes I'm getting is 21 and 22. I check the vtec soleniod to see if there is any oil coming to the soleniod, and there is. The thing is the engine harness is off the civic, so I had to rewire the Vtec to the ECU (P28) which the pins are A4 and D6. Some people tell me that I don't need to connect the Knock sensor. May that be the problem, or is my Vtec Solenion just shot? The check engine light goes off once I turn off my car but will come back on once I try to engage it again. What should I do???
