Hey, dumb question....... whats this?





one more thing, how much could i get for a B16A2 engine, its in great condition and has 25k miles?

it worked both times... Anyway, it's a crankcase breather. Balances out the preasure under the valve cover. Normally it's connected by a hose to the intake tube and sucked back in...

And the knowledge is that they serve no purpose and are no good, because they don't properly vent the crankcase.

if they server no purpose and are not good, why do people use them, i have seen them on tons of cars. It seems like i usually see em on cars with turbo. If it was connected to the intake on a car with turbo wouldnt that make the pressure in the crankcase too high?

also anybody know about the b16a2?

Because people are riceboys and think it looks cool, they have no idea generally about the functionality of parts. If you are turbo, you should really be using an oil catch can, not the breather filter.

Normally it's a hose that runs into the intake. It lets a certain amount of blow-by and oil particles into the intake. People use the little filters particularly with turbos because on some cars (DSM's come to mind) the breather actually spews a good quantity of gunk into the intake and a filter is a cheaper/simpler way to get rid of that gunk than a catch tank.
