Default Clunky 6-speed manual transmission

Hi,

I have been driving a 2006 V6, 6-speed Accord now for about a month, and I can no longer ignore the shift quality. I was under the impression that Hondas have a smooth, quick shift quality... However, my shifter is especially clunky when going into 3rd gear. In most gears, there are two detents to push past and about 2 out of every 3 shifts into 3rd gear go ka-thunk!

I don't think I'm doing anything wrong as I've driven over 400,000 miles with some sort of manual transmission so far and never had this problem before.

Ideas?

Hmmm... That makes me think that 1) I'm not making it up, and 2) I'm not the only one with the 3rd gear problem.

Thanks for the info - I'll do some more research on the subject (or if anyone know's the specific thread, please post here).

Yea man you're car's practically new. Something should be covered, even just diagnosing the problem. Don't keep driving it like that if something's wrong, might cause more damage.

If you didn't like the shift quality, why in the world did you buy the car??

I've never had a problem with the AV6's gearbox. It's difficult to make engagement smooth, but it's very precise.

When I first drove the car, it didn't seem to have this problem. Besides, confirming that there is a problem is fairly subtle... it's only 3rd gear that is troublesome with the other 5 gears plenty smooth.

I will try to schedule an appointment at the dealer today and see what they find. I'll post the results soon.

Each gear has it's own synchro. The synchro hubs are shared between say 3rd & 4th, but the cones & baulk rings are separate for each gear. It's possible that only one is screwed up.
