Default B18C5 and LSD trans problems

Hello everyone, im new here Just thought I'de ask for some help from you guys before I blindly go an try to trouble shoot the problem myself in the garage:

last thursday, my car's trans stopped being responsive. I had a new clutch and flywheel installed less than a year ago and the car worked fine. After a couple months, steering wheel vibrations would occur ONLY if I was turning with the car in gear (as opposed to just turning with the forward momentum, and the car in N). So I was at work, went to lunch no problem, then as I was parking the car, the trans stopped working.

It will idle fine, but the second i slip the clutch past a certain point, its like if i would have depressed the clutch all the way in, and the car stops moving. If i keep slipping the clutch past that point and give it some gas... you can sort of hear some contact trying to be made in the trans, and a loud sort of muffled sound comes from within the engine bay.

im gonna check the tranny oil which was replaced less than a year ago, but other than that im thinking that the shop i took it to last time didnt do the best job of installing the parts in the fist place, because I didnt beat on that clutch at all, and theres no reason why it shouldnt be working now.

-any help is appreciated.. thanks.

Would a broken axle still let the car idle tho? I havent checked them, but The car was was able to take me around to a restaurant and back before it crapped out when I was parking. If an axel broke, wouldnt it loud, or obvious?

thanks a lot for the info man... i just got the same opinion from my mechanic buddy. He said that the car probably wouldnt move at all, unless the transmission is LSD (which it is). I guess a busted axle is a lot better news than a busted clutch or flywheel. Thanks for the help,
-i'll keep ya posted

After raising the car, and inspecting the axles... one was definately damaged and the other looks okay.

some pics:

this is the driver side Axle :

as you can see, the boot is pretty chewed up. Thats getting replaced. However, it still turned when I turned the wheel.

Passenger side:

The passenger side looks fine, although where the axle meets the tranny, its pretty wet with oil. As you can see in the pic, theres a small gap between the axle and the tranny.

I have never had to repair an axle before, should the passenger side have that gap there? I ordered the parts and plan to swap them out friday, but any imput you may have would be a great help.
