Compression
How do I know the compression that each type of piston gives me. I was wanting to swap in a b18c1 into my 99 ex w/ later getting a turbo. and I was told you have to watch your compression w/ boost. What's the best way to max out my boost and compression with this setup??
here is the rule for na you want high compression for power and for turbo you want low compression so your motor does not detonate. i belive the b18c1 has a stock compression of 10.0:1. that is most likely to much for alot of boost but i am not an expert on boosting. just remeber that if you are looking for a lot of boost you need to put some forged internals in the motor. i hope that helps you out some. more info is availible through carefully searching HAN fourms
a lower compression gives you more room for error for running lots of boost before detonation. higher compression gives you more power at the same boost levels and better off boost response, but the margin for error goes down significantly. you better have a spot on tune if running anything more than 11:1 cr with boost. keep the hp levels down with that kind of compression along with a good tune and you'll have a nice motor setup.
you can easily make 300-350whp with a stock b18c1 with the right combination of parts and very good tuning.

How do I upgrade? If I get a set of pistons that gives me 11:1 cr, what else do I need to upgrade??
if you go with that kind of compression you'll want cams with big lift and duration to take advantage of it. along with the cams you'll need a better valvetrain to keep up. if you go with a setup like this you should keep it all motor. you'll also need tuning and run nothing less than 91 octane.
