i was driving my 94 integra gsr up the verrrry steep driveway, slipping the clutch to keep the speed low over the transitions so i wouldn't scrape my muffler tip, and then when i let the clutch out all the way it started to slip. after letting the engine rev for a second or two, i realized this was probably a bad thing, and let the car inch back down the driveway.

it was at this point i saw smoke coming from under the hood, and i was very sad. i backed up and drove up the driveway normally, scraping my exhaust, sinice i really needed to get in the back part of the driveway where it is level and i could fix my brakes. i made it ok, and without any additonal smoke.

when i was done, i backed back out and drive around a bit, and the clutch acts fine, but the car stinks of burnt clutch (i guess) inside and out.

my question is: what caused the smoke, and what should i do (if anything) to mitigate the damage i may have done? bonus points for tips on how to get rid of the stink faster.

The stink will just fade out. As far as your clutch, it should be fine since you said it was when you drove it. The reason for the smoke is when you were slipping it the flywheel was spinning on the clutch disc causing it to smoke because of all the friction and heat.

Lesson learned.. do not slip your clutch.
Approach your driveway from an angle if possible.

A scraped muffler tip is easy to fix / live with.
A clutch job is much more labor intensive.
