Default VTEC issues

My car is having issues, my engine screams like it's hitting VTEC but there's no extra pull, doesn't matter what gear, it feels like nothing is happening. I took a ride in my friends car, and it pulled foward when he hit VTEC, we both have B series motors, so what's with mine?

I have a B17 with a little bit higher mileage, could that be my problem? I have an AEM cold air, and DC sports headers, wires, and such. My friends car that pulls when he hits VTEC is basically stock too. When I do a 60 mph pull against my friends non-VTEC Civic, we stay side by side, then my VTEC will kick in and it'll sound sweet, but we stay perfectly even, no change. It seems that way in every gear though, well, first would be hard to tell because it's so torquey. Please advise.

a torquey b17? sorry.... :chuckles: i believe that's your first problem, you have a torqueless b17.

anyway, do a compression and leakdown test to make sure the engine is still healthy.
