So Wednesday I went to traffic court with my roommate for mitigation of a speeding ticket. The place was packed so we stood in the back. The judge was extremely happy and incredibly nice to everyone in the courtroom. Odd. After he calls a girl named Sarah up to the bench, an older man standing next to us whispers something to his friend. As the girl is walking back toward us, the older man says, "Judge, I hope I'm not being rude, but its Sarah's 21st birthday today!" So what does the judge do? He replies, "Well why don't we all sing happy birthday!" And he starts the entire courtroom in Happy Birthday to Sarah :yay:

PA Traffic court judges don't even preside over you. You tell the receptionist, she writes it down, and the judge removes the points and reduces the fine about 20%.

 

today is not my birthday either....

 

When I went to traffic court, the judge was in a good mood, until the guy in front of me tried for 20 minutes to exploit a very well known loophole in CA traffic sentencing law (Basically, if the judge defers your trial past 45 days, and the judge fails to get your consent, your traffic conviction is dropped). The guy before me kept trying to feign ignorance when the judge was asking him for consent, and after nearly 30 minutes of trying to get the guy to agree to his own request, the judge was not happy at all.
