Default recommendations for a soldering iron?

i want to replace my old one, and i'd like to buy local, not on the inet. anyone have suggestions?

Radio Shack has supplied me with a few over the years.


Just make sure to tin the tip and take good constant care of the tip and it'll last for years.

hmm.. i'm not finding exactly what i need at radio cac. there's only one with a variable temp. control, but it's $62.99. the next step down has only 2 heat settings..

weller is supposed to be good, but i don't think i can buy that locally.

You really don't need some expensive iron. Just get something that fits in your hand and turns on when you plug it in.
