Default Amp goes into protect mode, please help

my amp was used for a sub, then i ran two 6x9 and then just unhooked the speakers. so it was getting power, just wasn't being used. today i go to hook it up to a sub and once i plug the rca cables in it goes into protect mode. If I unplug them it shuts off. what;s the problem, it was working just 2 days ago?

go to radio shack or wal-mart and get some $4 rca's. pull out your head unit and plug 'em into the radio and amp. this will tell you if your other RCA's are damaged.

Did you connect the positive and negative lines backward?
