hi, what is the best pressure for tires for 98 civic coupe ?
i head somewhere that 30 front 29 back, but is that when the car is sitting on the ground or lifted.

 

I dont think it makes a difference whether or not the car is on the ground or in the air. I would just put 32psi front and rear.

 

Like Joe said,it doesnt matter,30psi is 30 psi,whether the air is a car's tire or in a tank...the manual says just like u said 30psi on the front and 29psi in the back!

I do 35 all around for normal driving (slightly higher tire pressure improves gas milage) and 40 front 32 rear for autocross. Your tire's maximum pressure rating will be printed on the side of the tire. Mine are 44psi so I feel comfortable doing 40 psi for a limited time. For normal driving, do not come within 5psi of the maximum rating because as the tire heats up on the highway, the air inside will expand, raising the pressure... so if you put in 35psi at the gas station, if you go for a drive, your tires may actually be at 42psi depending on conditions and what kind of driving you're doing. If your tire's maximum rating is 40psi, you're at risk of damaging the tire and possibly causing an accident.

 

35psi is allright,but 40psi is just tooo much...ever heard of hydroplaning...over doing the tire pressure will be one cause of that...also if you check the car manual it says that if you over do the tire pressure your tires wont wear out evenly!!!!so u might just want to stick close to the required tire pressure!

 

He said 40 for autoX, not daily driving...

I ran 35 in all.

 

i do the 35 front 32 rear like is says in my glove box ;p

plus with no power steering it helps to have more psi in the front

OEM recomendations are also of little consequence when my car originally came with 175/70/13 econocrap. :exnbp:

 

I've run 2-3psi higher all around. Gas mileage goes up, corners better, and tires are fine. The psi on the side of the car is recommended for a comfortable ride for the regular consumer.
