Default JDM VX Engine - Transmission match

Hello. Can anyone advise me what Civic models other than the VX hatch would be most appropriate to take a JDM VX engine? I've asked a local importer/installer, and he thought maybe the CX transmission was an exact match, but wasn't sure. I'm thinking about "making" a VX from a more easily obtainable car. Also, is anything other than a 92-95 model out of the question (eg, a 96 or later CX)? Thanks.

as far as i know there is no JDM VX motor, the D15Z1 is a us spec motor. U can use any trans from any D15 or D16 motor. The CX and DX have the same gearing at the US spec VX.

Thanks for the replies. The motor this local place is importing they call a D15 VTEC-E.

I didn't hear anything about going outside of the 92-95 generation. I also assume the Si is a different gearbox.

Maybe I can get to NoCal over the summer, but not until then. If you want to tell me about your backyard VX, I'm listening.

Oh, got it. Thanks for the offer. Shoulda figured you wouldn't be stashing an entire VX in your yard. If I find I really need a tranny, I'll let you know.
