How do I know which type of engine my civic has? I have a 96 ex coupe 5 spd

If it's the original engine it should be a D16Y8.

Like Infinite said, you have a D16Y8 eninge if it is the original engine.
This is a 1.6 SOHC vtec engine.

actually its not that slow with a turbo kit. There was this guy in tucson running a turboed D running low 12s on street tires.
