Default Digi Camera Gurus

I've never had a decent camera. For my birthday(May 8), my parents are going to get me a digital camera. They got me a really nice one from Costco for 270(Canon maybe? Huge screen, 6 Megapixels, really nice) But I'm not sure if I want to carry something that expensive with me. I'm going to be taking it to Europe next May.

What I want:
Slim design to put in pocket
Great quality pictures and camera
Video features
Large screen.
...
?

Can people post different cameras for me to look at that would be good?
Also good features of them.

That camera. Canon PowerShot. Thats it I know of it. I really liked what I saw of it and every moment, I like it more. In reality 270 isn't much for a good digi camera..

I would suggest the SD series from Canon, just like the one you posted. Be sure to have a big enough memory card and maybe extra batteries.

It came with 1 gig of memory I think. Seen a gig of memory on sale this week for 44. I think I'll call my mom tomorrow and tell her to keep it so I can take a look at it and think more.

Anyone know the model number of it?

Yea, theres no way the SD630 (one you posted) was bought at Costco for $270. If its an SD series, it is probably the SD450 or SD500...which doesnt have that HUGE screen in the back.

You gotta go with the Canon SD's. Those are terrific cameras. I have an SD400, 5.0MP, 2in screen ... and I'm never going to another brand. This was one of the best purchases I've ever made.

The SD450 has the same guts, but a larger LCD.

I tried (and returned) the Sony T line. Those were the slimmest cameras at the time (June 05), but the picture quality sucked badly ... it was plagued with red-eye issues too.
