I bought a salvaged '00 type r a few years ago. The motor has been good to me for the last two years. I plan to break into the motor in about a month and I was wondering if anyone knew anything about this motor before I begin. I bought it from a salvage yard in Penn. and it was PY. If anyone knows if anything was done to the car prior to my gaining possession of it, could you let me know. Thanks.

 

If it was salvaged, I would bet on some serious redlining (if no limiter-overreving). Mine definitely was. If you get into the valvetrain, I would checkout the valves and look for pitting on the seating surfaces.

Like I said I had the motor for about a year and a half. By comparision I ran a 14.5 stock in the car, my wifes ran 14.9. The Vtec is killer compared to my wifes, and I did a compression test a few days ago and it was 232-232-232-235. I plan to install Toda B's into the head with valve train ( I have the part just waiting to buy the bottom end). Which is the reason I'm asking about the car, to see if there was something internally done to the car. To answer you question (I think), the car has been rebuilt already.
