Default 00gsr, cant rev past 5k..feels like fuel cut, help!~

ALright, well bare with me as i try to explain this. I have a 00 GSR with ZERO mods to the motor. The other day i was driving and i'd say i was at 6krpm's and all the sudden it has no power, almost like fuel cut or i'm hitting the rev limiter and the CEL comes on.. It still drives ok but it wont let me go past 5k. I turn the car off and turn it back on and it works, i can get into vtec and it drives normal then later on it does the same thing, doesnt let me go past 5k. the cel stays on obviously but this problem only happens sometimes. It goes away when i turn the car off and on. Anyone have any clue on what it could be? Thanks in advance!

Pull the CEL code!! Your car is trying to tell you what's wrong with it!!

Too bad you're in Cali. Everywhere else, Autozone will pull the code for free and I heard that they can't in your state. But get on the phone and see if a garage can pull that code for you for free. They should if they want to try to earn your business. Then post what the code is here in your thread.

Or advertise on craigslist for help pulling that code. All my cars are 0BD1 or older, but I picked up a code reader for younger cars used for only $20. Those devices are out there.

Get the code and post it. For certain problems your engine will go into a "safe mode". This is designed to let you still limp home but not hurt your engine any more. This could be why when your CEL is on it won't let you rev past 5k.

22 VTEC Oil Pressure Switch (1.8L GSR)

thats what it was....i checked the oil and it was a little low, well pretty low. it was at the bottom dot..thats low, right? kinda hard to read the stick compared to other cars ive had lol..hmm idk why tho. i checked it a week before and it was fine. wtf? I havent seen any signs of a leak and i wonder why it would be burning oil, its all stock.
So since its the switch and the oil was low, maybe that was the problem? makes sense, the vtec wouldnt engage hense the vtec oil pressure switch woudlnt work cause of the lack of oil? ha, this blows. I hope i didnt do any internal damage. it sounds and runs fine still.
