96 Civic Need to change oil pan.
does anyone know if its hard to change the oil pan under the civics, i got a 96 with a problem leaking oil from the oil pan because the skrew doesnt tighten all the way so some oil leaks, i found a few i could buy but are they hard to change or not? Help??@>!>!
are you sure it isnt just the oil pan seal/gasket? anyway...if you do take off the old oil pan....make sure to get a gasket to replace your old one. i think it is a 8 mil all the way around with possible a 12 for the tranny/flywheel cover. kind of messy even after you drain the oil and your hands get tired from unscrewing all 20 bolt/stud...so air tool is recommended for ease. it is a straight forward process.
do you have to take off anything around the oil pan inorder to take off the oil pan? Even if its not leaking would it be wise to take it off anyway just to clean out the gunk and stuff that settles at the bottom?
there isnt much gunk down there.....the majority of the "gunk" gets cleaned out with freq. oil changes. you need to take off the exhaust manifold and the cover for the flywheel.....cover for flywheel is like 6 bolts and manifold could be a pain but isnt that hard as well.
no...there is a "shield" right where the bottom of tranny and bottom of block somewhat meet. the shield is for the cover of the tranny since the tranny is an odd shape compared to the bottom of the block. so i guess honda put a thin piece of metal to cover the hole so rocks and stuff wont fly into your tranny. make sense? that shield is just held on by a couple of bolts. you do not need to take off tranny at all for oil pan install
