Default How do i find out what engine is in my car?

yeah dumb question
a d18y6, what the hell is that?
i have a 97 civic ex, it doesnt have a vtec head so what is it?

look on your block right where your tranny meets and right below your distrubutor. there is a code.....shoiudl say d16y6 or whatevere...that is your engine code. or shoudl i say block code

your engine code is D16Y8, it is stamped right on a flat surface on the block right under the left side of the head. you do have the vtec since you have an EX.

D16Y8's don't say VTEC on the valve cover if that is what you expecting.

i dont believe so. only the 92-95 civics came with the valve cover with the VTEC stamped on it(and only certain years) and the 96+ didnt.
