Default civic HX transmission question

i am looking for a late 90s civic hx to replace my current car in hopes for better gas mileage and as an all around cheaper car. i noticed that they came with either a manual or cvt transmission. my question is does the cvt transmission have problems or is known to not be reliable? based on other honda auto trannys it raises concern with me. i know everyone will say go with a manual, but i would just be using this car as a commuter/point a to point b means of transportation plus i live in a fairly high traffic area. thanks for the help!

cvt is fine, but they won't last as long as the manual trans.

The HX trans are nice and long, but if you want a really long trans find a 92-95 civic cx or vx trans with the 3.250 final drive. those are the best for gas mileage
