Default Overheating / Gasket Problems

I'm a two and half day old owner of a 1994 Honda DX Coupé (1.5L I4). I'm guessing the reason the person who sold the car to me was because it overheats. I was driving along and after fifteen miles or so, the temperature thing went beyond the red marker. I brought it home and had someone take a look at it. My neighbor opened the radiator cap and that green liquid (anti-freeze/water?) flew up everywhere. I let the engine rest and stuff, but the next day it overheated after sixty miles or so. Five different mechanics looked at it. Three said it could be the thermostat, while two said it was the gasket. Not sure what kind of gasket (I didn't take it to the mechanic), but it seemed as if it was the head gasket. The car does seem to over-rev in between changing gears, but maybe that's just the way I drive or something. I'm more concerned about the overheating. My dad gave me a giant bottle of water and anti-freeze to put in after driving long distances, but I want to put an end to the overheating. Any advice, and more importantly tips, would be appreciated. Hope I didn't write too fully. Anyway. Thanks in advance.

first and foremost...don't ever open the radiator when the car overheats...you'll burn your face off...literally! Does sound like the thermostat. I always check the radiator hose when a car overheats, if its soft and you can squeeze it somewhat it should mean the thermostat is working. If its hard and does not compress much usually the thermostat is done. Im no expert but always has worked for me. And don't open the radiator cap when the car overheats. I would change the thermostat , not too expensive. If you live in a warm climate ...some people remove it all together. Good luck.

Please don't type in such a small font man, I can't see what you're writing. But I'm going to guess thermostat as well.

Take the thermostat out and put it in boiling water, if it opens then it's good, if not then it's bad
