Default so im sure its been asked 100 times... but i DID use search ;)

My specific application:
97 gsr, 120k stock except for intake.
If possible, provide links where i could find the stuff im lookin for )
I want a mid/low 14 second teg for just daily driving. What kinda of headers are best bang for the buck? I dont need full race spec, but i dont want the ebay special.
Valvetrain: I just want a better sounding vtec. Was thinking itr/ctr cams/springs retainers. I can get all that for $450 shipped, 20k on them. Should i spend a few hundred extra and get a stage 2 cam with better springs/retainers? (i.e crower). OR should i be satisfied with ctr cams?
I plan on taking off the oil pan and checking out the bearings, if i find significant wear- can i replace them without taking the block out, or is it a good idea to get the cylinders honed out and cleaned up? (i'd prefer not to if i dont have to.) Thanks in advance! (feel free to post some things for sale if you have a good deal)

Throw out some ideas of engines mods that are a good bang for the buck. Maybe a 50 shot of nitro?

PS... how high should i be able to rev with the ctr setup vs. crower, and how big of a hp/tq difference should there be between ctr vs. crower? (stupid Q i know, but im just curious if anyone has dyno'd with both of those)

heres a pair of brand new skunk 2 stage 2 pro cams....they will give you more power and make the vtec roar like shit....but with them you'll need to upgrade the valvetrain....

as far as the header D/C 4-2-1 or 4-1 are always a good option

dont expect to get this stuff for cheap b/c if you want full race spec ur not gunna be able to get em cheap....u should be able to make an extra 20-30 to the floor w/ the cams/header and u should look into the internals (i.e. springs valves/retainers) with those cams that should give you quite a bit of power to start out with....stick away from the no2 until you know exactly what ur doing and what you want to do ..... you'll be 10x happier with good engine mods than a 50shot o well....get back to me if you have any other questions
hope this helped out

first off, with the skunk 2 stage 2 cams, what kind of springs retainers do i need TO BE SAFE. I know of people who have upgraded to ctr cams with stock b16a2 retainers/springs and they dropped a valve @ 8k.
Second off, i mentioned that i dont want FULL race spec. Just a happy medium between price and power. I dont need to spend an extra $300 for race headers to get an extra 3 horses to the ground (i.e 7 horse for $250-300 or 9-12 horse for 500-700). I just want a good sound, and best bang for my buck.
If and when i get my cams, i will obviously upgrade the valvetrain. No reason to spend $ into something that could blow up easily. As far as the bottom end, can anyone answer the questions about my bearings?
And for the nitro.... i wont be turboing, so can i add a 35-60 shot for the valvetrain that i have in mind? Basically im just trying to keep the motor in the car, and do as much work as possible Nothing extreme on this one.

If i recall, 4-1 gives more hp but looses lowend torque, and 421 is a happy medium between the two, correct? Which one would be better for my particular wants/needs?

Anyone got some 411 on my valvetrain/bottom end questions?

4-1 will give you more HP, but it will be all up top.

4-2-1 will be down low.

So i assume a DC sports 4-1 1 piece header is acceptable for the price? (200-250)
anyone have some answers for my top and bottom end? Can i replace bearings/rings without machining the cylinder walls?

A DC header is garbage if you plan on making decent power. At least look into something with a 2.5" collector. This will probably not give you power right off the bat, but with more modifications, it will complement the extra additions.

Yes, you will have to hone the cylinder walls any time the rings are replaced.
