i took my civic to a shop and to test the alt. they hook both ends to the battery terminals. they got a reading of 12volts, which means that the battery was not being charged cuz it should say 14.4ish. WHICH means that the alt was dead, replacing it saturday. BTW car has to be running. ALSO while its on the battery give it some gas, it should increase. if it doesnt then it is your alt. check your grounds first though

When your car is running undo the neg. terminal of the battery. If the car stays running your alternator is doing the job, if the car dies there is your answer.

Yes, serious as a heart attack. You've never heard of that elimination process? The alternator carries most of the weight in powering the car. If it is not running correctly it won't run your car with battery un-done.
