Default Over Reved Engine

Its a long story, but basically I accidently let my engine rev to about 7.1 rpm even though it redlines at 6.8 rpm. i didnt think i did any damage, since the computer should have a rev limiter, but since then my engine sounds weird. it makes this kinda fuzzy noise, and it sounds like there is more noise comming from the engine compartment. i put on a cat back about a month ago, so there had been a deep grumble comming from the rear of the car, now there is a fuzzy sound comming from the front of that car. any ideas what might have happened? could i have done any physical damage, or is it all in my head?

How did you let it rev to 7100? Was it in a downshift or did you just forget to let off on the accelerator?

so i opened the hood, and there is something rattling inside the engine. I had a friend rev the engine and the rattle got louder. he was also driving behind me, and he said that at full throttle there was blue exhaust. not too much but faint blue. so any other thoughts?

I doubt you're now burning oil now from hitting the rev limiter. That's a sign of a possible bad ring or head gasket. I doubt it had any relation to the rev limiter though.

would the bad ring/ head gasket be causing the rattling problem. I've just started noticing the sound since the over-rev incident. also when i put in the clutch to shift, and the revs drop, thats when it makes the weird fuzzy sound. this weekend i'll try to flim / record the engine sound. anyone know where I could post the video or sound clip so u guys could hear it? that might help with diagnosing the problem.
