Default blown piston rings.

ok, what could cause this
compression test's
cyl. 1= 140
cyl. 2= 175
cyl. 3= 46
cyl. 4= 180

ok, i am guessing that i have a blown piston ring in cyl. 3, but what would cause cylinder 1 & 2 to be low? How can i fix this, i plan on putting new rings on soon, will this fix it?

optimum compresson is 180.

Cylinder 2 looks fine. Looks like the rings in cylinder 1 are pretty worn and on their way out. The rings in cylinder 3 are pretty much gone. I would take care of that ASAP.

ok, i may be running like this for awhile, my boss has told me that i should be fine running it like this for awhile, but to be prepared to pour in some oil every now and then. keep in mind i am an intern at a speed shop, and you may ask why i am asking these question's, its because i did the test my self, and just asked robert (boss) if it would be fine to run on a blown piston ring..
would replacing the rings fix the problem? i do all my own car maintnance.

If you run it like that, good luck. You might get lucky and be okay, or your ring could snag on something, scratch the cylinder wall, drop down into the crank, or who knows what else. At 46psi, i wouldnt drive it. But thats just me.

I agree. And if it does last any amount of time, it will foul your O2 sensor and catalytic converter.

That isn't a bad price. It only gets worse from here, so get it taken care of when you can.
