GSR-Hatchback driver side door problem
For some reason (possibly due to someone sticking a wedge in the door when the door was shut and locked, i.e. attempted theft) the driver side door has been sprung. When I shut it, the door edge near the handle sticks out of the frame about a 1/4 inch, which triggers the door locking mechanism to fail, which causes the alarm to not arm and will cause the door open light to well, light. Does anyone know of a solution to this problem. Can I reset the door in the frame or do I need to replace it. Any advice would be helpful.

I have a 98 GS and my drivers side door also stays open. it isnt that bad and I actually do not have any problems when it is warm, I live in ohio, so thats not often, but during the winter, the light comes on all the time.
In general, the U-shaped striker bolt has a wide range of adjustment, both vertically and horizontally. By sliding the striker bolt inward [toward the center of the car], you can adjust the postion of the latched door.
Get yourself a large phillips-head screwdriver and loosen the two machine bolts...just enough to slide the striker bolt inward an 1/8th of an inch or so. Retighten the bolts and check the adjustment.
Fine tune as needed so that the face of the door is roughly flush with the body. The door latch should "catch" without the need to compress the door against the frame.
