Default can you trace the history of a motor w/ the block #?

i hope this is in the right forum...well just like the title says, how can you trace the history of the motor by the block # if its at all possible? is there a way you can tell what year the engine came from by looking at the number? i was fortunate enough to take pics of my engine block # before my car was stolen and now im beginning to get curious. any help would be greatly appreciated!

thanks in advance

I think the first digit of the block # tells you what year, from when the engine was first available. For example B18C1 with first digit 2 is a 1995 (B18C1 was first available in 1994).

I'm not sure how you would go about finding the actual history. Somehow Honda must have records of which car (VIN) it was originally installed in, but I don't know whether they'll look up that stuff for you.
