Default Dip stick...

Ok so I was driving the other day on the highway and smelled burning oil. I was behind a kinda crappy car so I switched lanes and passed it but I still smelled it. When I got home I popped my hood and my dip stick was on top of my engine block and oil had sprayed everywhere
Does anyone have any ideas why it would have shot out like this???
Also, I got my oil changed recently (on time 3,000 miles) and they said I had almost no oil. I had never bothered to check it because I know that I don't have an oil leak...

No, I only checked it one time after the oil change and I know I put it back because I specifically remember having trouble getting it into the hold becuase my hood being open was blocking the light in my garage.

Just gotta make sure it's in tight. Let us know if it happens again.

I've heard of this happening before though.

Yea, some ppl on another forum suggested it might be the PCV valve so I'm going to check that tonight when I get home. I hope it's nothing serious - I don't have extra $ to fix it!

i meant to write funny you made this thread cause it just came up yesterday when i was at the dyno. I was asking if my rings could be shot and my friend said if they were shot that my dipstick would pop out. I should have been more clear, Sorry.
