Default Mechanic says "Let's change the transmission fluid :db:" -> Should I?

This is on the 98 Accord. It's got about 135k. Last transmission fluid change was at 85k.

This transmission is extremely volitile at times and since I sold the car it seems to have repaired itsself. Hahah. Dad says it now only slips between 1-2 and only when it's cold and under hard acceleration.

Dad said something like "I'd sure hate to change the fluid and that trigger the transmission to break." and I was like well let me ask HAN.

Got an opinion? (BTW: This car has only used Honda ATF, I'm not stupid :run

"trigger it to break" :lmao:

...or get out all the metal shavings that if left in there will eventually wear out the clutch packs.

This service should be done every 30k.

Kent, I'll give your tranny another 15k just like mine

Luckily this transmission was made until 2002 so I'll have a good shot at getting a low milage swap. Engine should outlast two transmission I suspect.

it stirs up metal shavings that are in the transmission from when the car was first broken-in (the cogs and sprokets and such get smoothed down, and there are little particles that fall off by design)

when the transmission fluid is flushed these particles are stirred up back into the transmission's main parts... where they cause problems.

drain and fill 3 times. and to the original poster... have him do the fluid, drain and fill 3 times...
