I just got a 93 Ls and so far I'm pretty happy with it. The one thing that bugs me though is that last owner had the rear windows and hatch window tinted. I'm pretty sure it was that stick on stuff because I can see a few air holes and it's purplish. It makes everything fuzzy and just looks bad. I was wondering if there is a good procedure to take that stuff off? Just thought I'd ask before taking a razor blade to the stuff. Thanks.

 

do a search for tint removal, there is a thread with some good tips on this site. also, becareful with the razor and the defroster lines. best thing is to let the tint soak with some windex with ammonia for a while then peel a corner up with the razor. then just pull the tint with constant pressure and the whole thing should come off.

 

the rear window with defroster lines will be a mess. Side windows etc.. the process is fairl simple. I would park the car in the sun, and start peeling up the edge. see what you can peel away. The top layer is easy.. but try to peel both layers at once. Then, take some amonia solution.. and let it soak on the windows. Then use a new razor blade.

I personally.. wouldn't tackle the back window. Its a mess.

 

I had to do a detinting after getting a ticket in the burbs of Philly. I used something called Bestine. You can purchase it at art stores. It's used to remove adhesives, glues, etc. It worked real well, but like others have said, the rear window is a pain. Bestine: http://www.best-testproducts.com/bestine.html

Let it set in the hot sun for a few days then peel what you can off of it and spray simply green on it.

 

be careful of simple green cuz it eats away at clear plastic and makes a haze appear on it.

I would let a pro remove the tint that has defroster lines underneath it. Less chances of defroster line damage. On my non-Honda-Acura, I was going to remove my 10+ year old tint on my back window myself. I bought a portable steamer, as mentioned on the TintDude site. The guy who was going to tint it suggested that he removes the tint, since he has a technique that works. He said that if I do it, that he is not responsible for any small bubbles from debris, glue, etc that was from my removal job. He said that if he did the job, there would be less chances of that. He said that he would do the removal job for $70. For that low of price, I let him. The day of the removal and retint of the backwindow, I dropped the car off before he opened at 8:30am. He was done totally at 3:30pm. Removal, with retint of the backwindow, and a strip of tint on the windshield. He said it was one of the worst removal jobs so far.

Any other windows without defroster lines you can remove the tint yourself with some time and labor.
