Default Tire Dressing

For years, I have used nothing but Black Magic TIRE WET on my rubber for the best, glossiest results, and I actually apply the cherry-smelling stuff on with a PAINT BRUSH instead of simply spraying it on to get a thicker coat; it seems though that after, say, just two or so days of driving, the gloss begins to dissapear and doesnt last all that much longer.....is this normal with tire dressings, and IS there a better, more professional brand on the market that REALLY REALLY shines in a high gloss fashion than Black Magic's Tire Wet?

Most gel-like tire dressings fling off or wash off easily. I have found best results with 'armor-all' type dressings.

Currently, I use Meguiars NXT interior cleaner/gloss spray and it works pretty well on tires.

Thanks a lot Nelson!

Well, let me explain my situation a bit better for you...I dont have a problem with the Tire Wet "flinging off" because the car sits for HOURS before I take it out driving, so the stuff bakes into the tires fine; what I find is that after a few drives, the shine dissapears.....no matter HOW many coats of the stuff I brush on. Is this normal?

When you say Armor All TYPE dressings, you mean ARMOR ALL ITSELF? I have had negative results with Armor All on the tires and ONLY use it on the dashboard for interior detailing.

I HAVE used the Meguair's HOT WHEELS tire dressing, but found it to be AWFUL---one drive and the stuff was off already.....is the NXT product you mention BETTER than the hot wheels product, and when you say "pretty good" does it give a REAL HIGH GLOSS WET SHINE? Thats more what Im looking for.

Thank you for your help!

Products like armor all soak in. Gel's, from my experience, do not. They just fling off (as your experience can assure) it 'disappears'.

I use the Armor All Tire shine FOam. I think it lasts halfway decently. It doesnt shine as much as other more oily brands but it brings the tire back to a more black look

regardless of what a product says about maintaining a long-lasting gloss, it's going to wear off rather soon. i've detailed cars for almost 7 yrs now and have tried several different products, ranging from spray-on foam, tire shine sprays and the gels. the foam stuff is pretty crappy. not very shiny and after a week it wears off. and if it rains, forget it, its gone. sprays last a little longer than that. shine only lasts a few hundred miles before its gone. but ive found that after rain, it browns the tires pretty quickly. and i hate that.
my best experience was using meguiars tire gel w/ an eagle1 tire gel applicator. its not crazy glossy, but it outlasts everything else regardless of rain, and best of all doesnt make your tire brown nearly as fast as the others.
i havent been able to find it again, though. not sure if the discontinued it or all the stores i went to were out of stock. as of now i use meguiars tire spray w/ the applicator to ensure an even coat and minimizing flinging.

overall, your shiny gloss isnt going to last more than a few days. unless you put like, vaseline or something. but uh, i dont recommend that. goodluck.

Interesting and I SHALL consider using it; I have found unfortunatley that the Armor All Wipes are best used for the dashboard; on the tires their shine didnt really impress me....

Thanks!

Thanks for your thoughts Cob; I dont prefer the spray on foams at all, as I would rather use thick stuff you can coat on with a brush or so. But thank you!

I TOTALLY agree with you here about the foam sprays; they are pretty much shit and I avoid them.

"sprays last a little longer than that. shine only lasts a few hundred miles before its gone. but ive found that after rain, it browns the tires pretty quickly. and i hate that."

Yes----I have found that, too.....once it rains, forget it----the tires look like complete ass even though I BRUSH my dressing on with a paint brush with THICK COATS. Doesnt seem to matter.

"my best experience was using meguiars tire gel w/ an eagle1 tire gel applicator. its not crazy glossy, but it outlasts everything else regardless of rain, and best of all doesnt make your tire brown nearly as fast as the others."

Thanks; I'll take it into consideration although the last Meguairs tire shine I used lasted ONE DRIVE until it wore off; I think Im getting the best results with what I said, Black Magic's Tire Wet.....

"i havent been able to find it again, though. not sure if the discontinued it or all the stores i went to were out of stock. as of now i use meguiars tire spray w/ the applicator to ensure an even coat and minimizing flinging."

Using an applicator----or brush like I do----IS THE professional way of applying dressing----NOT spraying it from the bottle. Most people dont know this.

"overall, your shiny gloss isnt going to last more than a few days. unless you put like, vaseline or something. but uh, i dont recommend that."

Thanks; I guess this last statement is the DEFINITIVE answer on this. Thank you very much!
