Default 8 guage or 4 guage kit; plz help!

Ok...The birth certificate on my alpine mrd-m605 is 666watts @ 14.4v. I've hooking it up to a type r sub(500wattsrms, 1000peak).

I picked up an 8 guage stinger wiring kit and a few things confuse me. It uses a 60amp AGU fuse and on www.bcae1.com #13 it says the max fuse for 8 guage wire is 50 amps.

Another probelm I ran into is this:
WARNING! There's less than 300 circular mils per amp. Use a larger gauge wire. See note below. I've actually got 275 circular mills per amp when I crunched the numbers.

All this being said, in the mrd-m605's owners manual it suggests 8 guage or bigger.

So...Is the fuse ok? and is the wire ok..

I would use a 4 gauge. Itll give you room in the future in case you decide to upgrade or add another amp. And just put a 60a fuse on it.

Any way to return that amp kit and get a bigger one?

No matter the size, I always used 4 gauge. Its just safer, and if you need to bigger size, you don't have to run new lines. Plus, its not like it ins't going to hurt if you use 4 guage on an 8 gauge system. But just make sure your ground is also 4 gauge...NEVER run power a different size than your neg. thats just plan stupid.

Also, make sure that you don't run a bigger fuse either. I have seen too many systems use a bigger fuse...stupid, becuase then your amp fuses blow and those are a bitch to get to if your system is installed hardcore.

yeh it cost me twice as much but i decided to upgrade to a 4 guage kit. I got 12 guage wire from home depot to hook up my sub to amp. I am planning on getting a 50x4 amp for my speakers in the future so this is the best choice.

As i see on http://www.the12volt.com/wiring/recwirsz.asp it says that a 4 guage wire can handle 150 amps. The kit that I got came with a 150 amp mega fuse. I hear what you're saying about a 60 amp fuse because the current should not be above 60 anyways and a problem would be solved more quickly with a smaller fuse way before the wire reaches its current limit. Is it necessary to get a 60 or is 150 sufficient.

You DO NOT want a 150a fuse on that amp. You want the power to shut off if it gets above 60a, hence the 60a fuse.

If you have that amp on the power wire, use a 60a near the battery.

wrong.

the 60a fuse can probably pull in excess of 100a. the fuses within the amp are there for a reason as well. I will agree with you on getting the 4g wire though, headroom is very important

Can you explain that more? I am interested to learn.

A 60a fuse can allow more than 60 amperages through?
